Dodgers Sign Final Draft Pick Clayton Beeter (Dodgers Nation)


The Dodgers appear to have had a very successful draft in 2020, even with just six picks. They made the final signing official on Sunday after inking Clayton Beeter to a deal. 

The financials of Beeter’s deal has not yet been made public, but the Dodgers had just under $900k in pool space after signing Jake Vogel the other day. Per MLB’s draft rules, clubs that exceed their assigned pool face a penalty.

Signing Beeter to his slot value of $1,003,300 would result in a 75 percent tax of the overage. That overage would be approximately $112,400 so nothing out of the Dodgers’ reach. Clubs start to lose future draft picks at higher thresholds, like exceeding their player pool by more than 5 percent. 

The Dodgers took Beeter in the second round of the draft with the 66th overall pick. Beeter was previously profiled as the 51st ranked prospect in the draft but went in the second compensatory round.
