While the sports world is shut down because of coronavirus, Marcus Stroman filled his time Thursday by becoming the unofficial recruiting coordinator for Team USA. The Mets right-hander was named the MVP of the 2017 World Baseball Classic after pitching USA to the title, and with the 2021 tournament around the corner, Stroman got a head start on trying to make sure USA reloads to repeat.
It started when MLB Network posted a clip on Instagram of Adam Jones’ home run-robbing catch against the Dominican Republic during the 2017 tournament. Players on the team began jumping into the comments, including Stroman, who wrote, “we gon’ run this back and win it again or what?” Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer and Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich wrote back they were in and then Stroman got to work on Twitter.
Stroman tagged Dodgers outfielders Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger, Angels outfielder Mike Trout, Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler, Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette, Reds pitcher Trevor Bauer and Rockies shortstop Trevor Story in a tweet and asked fans to tag who else should play for USA Baseball.
Bellinger, Bauer, Story and Buehler all…
