Mets bench coach Hensley Meulens drawing interest from Red Sox (New York Post)

The Mets already are looking for a new manager. They could need a new bench coach, too.

The Red Sox, who fired Alex Cora last week after his role in the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal, have expressed interest in Hensley Meulens for their managerial opening, according to MLB Network. Meulens is also a candidate for the Mets job after they parted ways with Carlos Beltran.

Meulens spent the last 10 years on the Giants’ coaching staff under Bruce Bochy, winning three World Series titles, and made the move to the Mets thinking he would be Beltran’s bench coach. He spent five years as a player with the Yankees and interviewed to be their manager back in 2017.

The Mets and Beltran parted ways last week after Beltran was the only player named in MLB’s investigative report into the Astros’ cheating scheme.
