Monday went from bad to worse for A.J. Hinch and Jeff Luhnow.
Astros owner Jim Crane announced on Monday that he was firing his manager and GM following MLB’s investigation into the team’s sign-stealing scandal that has rocked the sport. Commissioner Rob Manfred had levied one-year suspensions for Hinch and Luhnow.
“They both had responsibilities. Neither started this, but neither did anything about it,” Crane said.
MLB said that while Hinch disapproved of the Astros’ use of cameras and a monitor to tip off pitches, he did not do enough to dissuade players from using them.
