Dellin Bentances’ health sparks bold Brodie Van Wagenen Mets claim (New York Post)

No questions loom about his New York mettle, his clubhouse fit or his peak performance. Dellin Betances, the newest Met, faces one obvious and sizeable hurdle to clear:

Is he healthy?

He is, the reliever insisted Thursday at his Citi Field introductory news conference, so much so that he appeared to embrace his new boss Brodie Van Wagenen’s proclamation that, whereas most acquisitions improve a team’s performance floor, “This signing was designed to blow the cover off of our ceiling.

“We believe that a healthy and dominant Dellin, combined with Edwin Diaz and Seth Lugo and Justin Wilson and Jeurys Familia, Brad Brach, Robert Gsellman, this collective group has the potential to be one of the best bullpens in baseball,” Van Wagenen said.

Of course, that potential group — minus Betances — was far from one of the best bullpens in baseball last season as it pitched to a 4.99 ERA and blew 27 saves.

“We’re excited to get them all together down in Florida almost a month from now,” Van Wagenen said.

“I feel good at this point,” Betances said. “I’ll be ready to go in spring training.” He added: “I’ll be 100 percent.”
