JT Chargois is headed to Sendai. The 29-year-old reliever has signed with the Rakuten Eagles of Nippon Professional Baseball’s Pacific League one day after being released by the Dodgers.

Chargois signed with the Dodgers in 2018 after debuting with the Minnesota Twins, although he mostly split time between the major league club and Triple-A Oklahoma City. Over the past two seasons, Chargois appeared in 60 games with LA, finishing 13 of them while posting a 4.53 ERA through 53.2 innings pitched.
Although he will be in unfamiliar territory, Chargois won’t be the only former Dodger in Sendai as Kazuhisa Ishii, who played for the Dodgers from 2002-2004, is their general manager. He also joins former cross-town rival Jabari Blash, who played for the Angels in 2018.
The Eagles finished third in the Pacific League last season and reached the playoffs for the first time since 2017. They look to capture their second PL and Japan Series pennant, which they last won in 2013.
A stint in Japan may be just what Chargois needs to get his career…
