Yankees’ position battle hinges on Andujar trade contingency (New York Post)

Gerrit Cole was the Yankees’ top offseason priority, and now he is in pinstripes to front perhaps the best rotation in baseball.

Gleyber Torres is moving from second base to shortstop to replace Didi Gregorius, with DJ LeMahieu manning second. Giancarlo Stanton should be fully healthy for spring training after playing in 18 games last season. Brett Gardner has re-signed. Aroldis Chapman’s contract was extended a year. Aaron Hicks won’t return from Tommy John surgery until at least June. For now, Luke Voit, Mike Ford and LeMahieu are looked at to handle first base.

Luis Severino should be healthy. Kyle Higashioka replaces Austin Romine as Gary Sanchez’s backup catcher, which is a bigger job than onother clubs because of Sanchez’s lower body health issues, which landed him on the injured list twice in each of the past two seasons.

Pitching coach Larry Rothschild and bench coach Josh Bard were removed from Aaron Boone’s staff and replaced by Matt Blake and Carlos Mendoza, respectively. Strength and conditioning mentor Matt Krause was let go this past week.
