Yankees submitting Gerrit Cole contract offer in winter meetings frenzy (New York Post)

The Yankees plan on submitting a formal contract offer to Gerrit Cole on Monday at the MLB Winter Meetings in San Diego, sources told The Post’s Joel Sherman.

Cole, the former Astros ace, is expected to make a decision by the end of this week’s meetings and could command up to $300 million.

The right-hander’s value likely increased Monday after Stephen Strasburg, previously considered the second-best pitcher on the market to Cole, signed a record-breaking seven-year contract worth $245 million to stay in Washington.

The Yankees and Angels are considered the front-runners now for Cole, who is from Newport, Calif. A contingent led by Brian Cashman met with Cole last week in a meeting that was said to have went well.
